Hey so i own a 96 mazda b4000 se 4wd but it runs ford ranger parts and has the 4.0 v6. I was out mud bogging and i hit a rock, check it out after and it was fine but i went through a mud puddle and now it doesnt want to stay running, sometimes its hard to get to turn over but as long as i keep my foot on the gas it tries to run. As soon as i put my clutch to the floor with no gas it dies when i punch it it chokes out and then takes off sometimes or just chokes out. Any idea's? My air filter was drenched when i stopped to see if the rock damaged anything.

 

I would clean the MAF sensor(on the air filter housing), this sensor tells computer how much fuel to add to the air that is coming in.

Also check the exhaust pipe, clogged/dented/bent exhaust pipe will cause what you describe(how big were those rocks?), engine is basically an air pump, if you block the OUT, you don't get much IN, lol.

 

The rock was about 3 feet long maybe a foot thick just the one tho was covered in mud lol i kinda pushed it out of the mud. I'll do that in the morning how hard is it to clean the MAF? Just like use carb cleaner or something? And i hope my pipe isn't messed i just paid $250 canadian to have my custom "cat back" 2 3/4" straight pipe installed.

 

You should use MAF cleaner, comes in a spray can, carb cleaner is a bit to corrosive to use on MAF sensors.
MAF uses two thin wires, they are heated up and then temp is measured, as air is sucked passed it the wires cool down, the more air passing the cooler it gets, this is how air volume going into engine is measured.
And this system works pretty well as long as the wires are clean.
