Have you ever changed the strainer?

Sadly you need to open the tank to do so. I would just replace the pump, if you gonna tear it apart.

Plugs?? WHens the last time you changed the plugs? On my 2000 it had 170+k on original plugs. It got to the point it would be hard to start like this. I changed plugs and wires and it would start right up.

Although Josh had the same problems on his 2000 4.0 OHV, it was hard to start, and finally shut off and wouldnt start for him. Towed it home, replaced the fuel pump, and he said it ran like a whole new truck. Had MUCH more power, etc.

IMO change the plugs and wires first. On my 4.0 OHV, it had original plugs at 170k+. It started doing that, and got to the point it wouldnt start, especially if it was cold. Replace the plugs/wires and then we'll see what she does. If you want to bring them to the meet we can do it then..??

I changed the plugs, wires, and battery on that 2000, and I tell you, it fired RIGHT up. Lol, I think it started before I even turned the key, it was so quick

IMHO get cheap copper plugs and replace them every year or two.

I don't need an expensive plug that lasts 100k. They are easy enough to change.

mine's been doing the same thing for months and months now, have to turn the key 3 times and then start in order for it to turn over. i finally got a fuel pressure test done today and it's running at 65, apparently it's supposed to be between 40-65, which means the pump is good, so they checked the TB and the MAF and there was some gunk build up and they cleaned that out.. still had the problem, so they recommended a fuel injection system cleaning, which runs about 75 bucks.. i'm going to give it a shot tomorrow and i'll let you know if it works or not!

I would replace the spark plugs and wires first, mine had the same problem also, changed those out and it started right up. Don't get Bosch spark plugs, get Motorcraft.

How many miles on your plugs and wires? If you have many, change them before you dish out $75 for this test.

Clayton FTW. IMO, Bosch plugs are fine too, just don't waste your dimes on the +4 and fusion scams.

why would it be plugs if he has to prime the fuel pump like i do?

you turn it 3 times and wait and it starts right up
if you try starting it regularly it never starts, or it takes like 10 seconds
