OHV to SOHC

I have made several posts about this before but I am putting an 03 sohc into my 98 ohv. I know about the changes and how the ohv "feels" more powerful but isn't, race the two and you will see. It has also a general rule that 6's aren't torquers anyway. Although I don't have any complaints about the ohv, its a great motor and I love it but I want more rev's. But anyway the time has finally come I am getting the motor trans and t-case, all with 1700 miles on them. I am not to familiar with this swap, so I was wondering is there anyone that would be a help to this particular kind of swap. Answering questions and what not.

X2!!

Why do all that work only to have such little results, not to mention the timing chain issues, PCM repalcement, pats key system...

When you could even eiasier swap a 5.0 from an Explorer.

If you want the SOHC engine get 04 or later. No timing chain problems. But in reality its just an overly complicated pile of crap. Stick with your pushrod engine and hop it up for more power.

I hope you plan to re-gear also, because the SOHC absolutely needs higher revs to make power. Have fun with the wiring too.
I would personally rather spend the time/money on a 5.0L swap myself.

Keep going with the SOHC... despite what these guys are saying its pretty much a plug and play swap. Seriously. It's one of those things you can do in a weekend. (if you know what you are doing anyway). I have even seen people run a SOHC on an OHV computer... I don't recommend it... but I've seen it done.

The 5.0 swap is MUCH more complicated and the stock engine makes the same amount of power as a SOHC 4.0. Unless you plan to build the 5.0 it's not worth it.

oh i would love a 5.0 (best year=225hp 295flbs) but its to hard of a swap to have a 4x4, manual combo since thats what i have now. I am simply doing the sohc (207hp & 235flbs) swap with a new tranny and t-case all of the parts im putting in have 1700 miles on them as opposed to 163,xxx. and the ohv costs to much to make any kind of good power with.

5.0 motor = 500 - 800 dollars with about 50 - 70k miles
Trans = 300 - 500 dollars with same mileage
T-case = 250 - 400 same mileage.

I have been doing lots of used part searching. I would imagine for a little over 2 grand you could get a 5.0 swap done. I could be wrong.

Is this a motor you already have? If so, sure swap it in (especially if it is low miles apposed to your high miles). I was under the impression (from someone else) that wiring it was a pita, but maybe he was using an old OHV computer instead of a new computer with it.
