Found my new speakers.. I'm in love!
i went into my local car audio shop to figure out when my warranty expires on my current components. my little brother "accidentally" managed to blow one of my Morels while borrowing my truck over the past 3 weeks. (his car is dead... long story short, i'm a nice guy). i've owned my current set of speakers for nearly 4 years.. loved them... never had a problem with them, and somehow my little brother beat one to death over the past 3 weeks.
so anyways... i went in to find out how much a replacement woofer would be. the guy looked it up, and told me they don't sell single woofers, i'd have to order a pair, which would cost me roughly $598... for another $300 i could buy an entire set so i said i'd hold off on that, then started to look around.. i finally asked him what he thought about Dynaudio. i've known about them for years, and always wanted to hear some of their stuff. immediately he got excited and began to tell me about all sorts of tests Mobile Electronics recently did with the set of Dyn's that i want, versus one of Rainbow's high-end stuff ($5000-6000 price range)... the Dyn's actually did better than the Rainbows... it was a big plus that they're only about a fourth of the price.
i asked him if they ever get them in their display room. he told me they only order them as they need them, because they're not your normal speaker that people recognize or want. i was let down a bit because i figured i'd never get to hear a set. he then told me they have a set installed in their competition Porsche.... he asked if i wanted to hear them and right away i said yeah.
that car was the best sounding car i've ever heard. its a 2007 Porsche (forget which model). It won first at the Tuner Evoloution IASCA Competition. they don't have any pictures on their website of it just yet, but it is on the main page right here, if you'd like to clarify which porsche it might be (im no good with porsche models).

anyways... since i have to do something about my current speaker situation, i'm really leaning towards getting a set of the Dynaudio Esotec System 342's. if i do go thru with it... i'm going to have a fun project on my hands in the near future... my door panels will need to be revamped to make room for a set of 3 ways.
anyone else have any experience with them?? heard anything about them (good or bad).
Please don't post a simple "I don't get it, audio is a waste of money..." you're more than likely the same guy satisfied with his cassette player, lol.

anyways... the amp they had in the Porsche was a McIntosh (another well known name in the audio world for quality). i forget which amp it was, but the guy told me it was sending about 300watts to the components, and told me my amp should do well for them.
after taking a look at my truck again today... i realized that my inspection is up this month, lol. i know the truck is in need of some work before it'll pass inspection, so i've got to dump money into that first before i bother playing with sound.... while i'm at it, i'm also going to go ahead and give it a well needed overall tune up. it's got about 103k miles on it now, and hasn't had anything replaced yet (plugs, wires, belts, etc....)... so i'm gonna shell out a few bucks had have all of that taken care of so nothing creeps up on me any time soon.
if all goes well... i should be getting these speakers in the next couple of weeks. if this were one month ago, i would have just bought them right then and there... but this month is a little more hectic, so it's going to have to wait.
