WTH!!: Analog to Digital switch is messin w/ my Ranger radio!

Today is supposed to be the day they swith the tv signal from analog to digital...

well i got in the truck and started listening to radio and i noticed that my county station was REAL staticy (its usually clear as a bell)

so i turned to my rap station, 102.1 (102 jamz) and it was playin country!

then i tuned it to 106.5 which is our alternative station, and it was playin MEXICAN!!! WTH, i got to thinkin and i remembered that today was supposed to be the day they swithced it---i thought it was just TV signal, evidentally its messin with radio signal or soemthing!

iSOOOO i wonder it the swithc is interfering with readio signal)i ts the only conclusion i can come up with as it was fine yesterday and its ironic is muffing up on the day they switch signals!!!

i just wnat my radio to pick up the right stations!!!

ps i have my factory radio!

They aren't supposed to switch til midnight. I don't know whats up with your radio or how the DTV switch would affect it.

Our radios here were messed up too. Static stations and multiple things playing at the same time on the station (2 different channels on one).

Searched on Yahoo and found something:

Since the transition to digital television, you are no longer able to listen to the broadcast of WCTV on 87.7 FM on your radio.

This is not WCTV’s decision but rather a consequence of the Federal Government’s decision to discontinue analog broadcasting.

The 87.7 FM frequency matches the analog broadcast signal of WCTV and that is why you have been able to listen to us on the radio for 53 plus years.

We wish you could continue listening to us on the radio. However, the loss of the signal is beyond our control and again is related to the Federal Government’s decision to discontinue the use of the analog frequency.

Search all you want. Prior to DTV, any television station that broadcast on channel 6 could be picked up on a standard FM radio tuned to 87.7 -- now that analog television broadcasting is ceasing, this will no longer be possible. WCTV (Thomasville/Tallahassee) is one such channel, as is WRGB in Schenectady, NY, affected by this change in television broadcast standards.

regarding the original post:

Nothing about the DTV transition [is affecting/has affected/can affect] your FM radio reception, (except in the very limited number of cases where folks could tune in the audio from their local channel 6 analog station.)

What you'll want to do to determine what's going on with your radio reception is this:

1. Find another radio. It could be in your home or in another vehicle. Tune in those stations. Are you experiencing the same issues you noted in your truck? If no, then there's a problem with the radio in your truck. If yes, then

2. Contact one or more of the radio stations involved, and ask them if there's a problem with their transmitter, and when they expect it to be operational again.

The one sole correlation to your reception problem and the DTV switchover is that many television station owners also own one or more radio stations in the area. It is possible that, during the switchover, they've turned all their transmitters off to allow their engineers to work safely on the towers while the DTV equipment is being installed. If this is the case in your situation, chances are the static-filled content you're hearing is from some other FM station on that frequency in a distant city -- normally you wouldn't hear them at all, but you can get marginal reception of their signal while your local station has their transmitter off the air.

I know on of our digital channels was on UHF channel 45, but now is on to VHF channel 13 to get more coverage and is awaiting approval from the FCC to double the power also....

see my message, above. your local television stations have probably completed their work, and have reactivated the transmitters on those towers.
