I have an 08 4.0l ranger with the roll down windows and I put new JL door speakers in but with some songs the door rattles. I think it's the mechanism that the **** for rolling down your windows connects to. Any ideas on how to solve this?

 

Turn the radio down or off. ( problem solved )

OK, OK just kidding.

You may have to remove the door panel and plastic water barrier roll the window down and start tapping on the door to see where the play is coming from.

My guess is the felts are worn in the window channel allowing the window and regulator to flop around too much.

However until you find out what has too much play in it that is just a guess.

While you have the door panel off make sure to inspect the bottom of the door for debris and make sure the drains on both end of the door are clear.

If the drain holes have a black plastic louver or insert in them make sure to remove them and toss them out.

The plastic inserts make it too easy for these drain holes to get clogged which will allow your door to rust out.

If you have clogged door drains make sure to check the passenger side door also.

If you find rust at the bottom of the door or inside the door along the seam once you clean up the loose rust and debris you can treat the rust with Ospho rust converter ( just make sure to not allow the Ospho to get on any painted surfaces, if it does wipe it off and clean with fresh water right away to prevent staining.

I like to pour a little Ospho inside the door along the seam and let it penetrate the seam then I address any rust on the very bottom of the door along the folded end of the door skin.

Again Ospho will stain your paint so be ready to clean up anything that may drip out of your door drains or seep through the seams.

If you do not have any rust anywhere that is great just make sure the drains are clear.

While you have the door panel off you may want to do some maintenance in the door like lubricating the window regulator, door latch, hinges etc with white lithium grease.

Let us know what what you find rattling around if you need any more help fixing it.

 

I found that the rod that the window **** connects to to roll done the window is the problem, if I hold the rod in place it stops (I'm assuming that it is something inside of the mechanism for rolling down the window) just don't know how to prevent this from rattling without preventing me from rolling down my window

 

i would take it apart and make sure nothing else is the issue.

The window regulator has a spring on it and other moving parts, the regulator may have a worn part or it may just need some thick lithium grease on one of the moving parts.

When you can take the panel off and take pictures of the part that is moving for sure and we can advise you what to do about it.

For now with no other information is sounds like something is worn with the regulator which is not surprising since the drivers window gets used more.

If the regulator is worn out, it is a inexpensive part to replace.
