3.0 engine noise

99 ranger 3.0 ohv lost the cam sync gear and oil pressure. Replaced the sync unit got good oil in there with lucas. It did on start up make a taping noise for 1-2 secs. That went away now around 3500 rpm or rite as i go to shift it makes that noise. Almost like a knock but i hear it the loudest in the front of the engine just under the intake. So im not sure what im hearing. Engine runs really good except for that noise. Need some opinionsi dont know how to load a video of the sound so if some is to txt me ill send the video. 7176792436

Welcome to the forum

No oil pressure could cause any number of problems so.....................

I doubt a video or sound bite would help.

From description it reads like noise comes when engine RPMs are dropping
i.e. when you shift you let off the gas pedal and noise starts

Could be slight drop in oil pressure is causing lifter to collapse briefly, long shot

What ever damage was done, is done, if it doesn't make the noise at idle, lowest oil pressure then it will be hard to determine the source until it gets worse, if it even does get worse

You would hear it all the time once it got bad enough, but it would go away when decelerating, Rod Knock noise comes from rod slamming into crank when cylinder fires, so not a rotational noise.
If you disable spark or fuel injector on the effected cylinder Rod Knock noise will go away since cylinder isn't firing
