Icon9 Nutty Clutch

Our 94 Ranger 4x4 is a cream puff at 110,000 miles. First I'll list my first major goof, a dumb mistake. In zero weather last winter, the clutch slave cylinder failed, and I put transmission fluid in the master cylinder. Of course, this didn't work. Lazy me, I had Master Mechanic put in a new clutch, new slave, etc., = $2G. Believe it or not, the Mechanic did not put new fluid the first time. I paid for a new master cylinder and slave job, taking the blame = $1G. Three times now since, the clutch hydraulic system has been "re-bled" by the Mechanic in order to be able to put the truck into 1st or Reverse gear. Three days ago, the Mechanic bled the line again (for free), and good shifting momentarily returned, only to stop again today. Mechanic has been untiring, but I'm thinking I need to fix the thing myself. But why does the very hard shifting keep returning? Any ideas? The tranny oil level is fine. I might offer that the Mechanic was rough with the fire wall mounting for some reason in the beginning, but I don't see that structure as influential since this is a hydraulic system. There's more: fourth gear stopped staying in gear since Master Mechanic worked on the truck last winter. Here in the mountains, we don't need fourth gear, fifth is good enough for the highway, but I'm gearing up to redo the tranny myself, because the wife is getting cagey. It's her truck!
