BAD shift motor...
The shift motor for my 1354 went out in my truck over the weekend so I had no 4x4. Luckily, I didn't really need it, just wanted it to prevent tearing up the yard. I went to Pull-A-Part in North Atlanta and grabbed 2 just to be safe. I had no problems changing it, but couldn't figure out how to undo the wire that goes into the tail housing by the rear driveshaft, so I just cut it and spliced it back together.
Its all good now and works like a charm again. From now on I'll carry the other one I got from PAP as a spare b/c they are apparently notorious for going out.

Don't know if its the same on yours, on mine the connector on the shift motor wires has a red center plastic piece that pulls out and then you can take a little tool of some sort and lift up the plastic retainier, and take the wire out of the connector, leave it hanging from the transfer case. Take the same wire out of the new motor's connector, then replace it with the one still hanging from the transfer case, and replace the red center plasitc piece in the connector to lock all the pins in place
