3.73+33's
I've searched and searched and just can't find what I'm lookin for. I drive a 96 4.0 4x4 4spd Auto with 1.5 inch skyjacker coils and 31x10.5 X Terrains. The next thing comin is 3inch body lift and 33x12.5 Trxus MT's. Anybody runnin 3.73's with 33's how's it workin out for ya? My road time is mostly highway so there won't be lots of stop and go. I know 4.56's are ideal, but they're not in the budget right now. I'm thinking I'll be fine, just slow. Just looking for first hand experiences.

I have Interco TSL's 33's with 3.73's I personally hate it my truck is a dog off the line. My gas mileage sucks also but that is because I do NO highway driving everything is either in town or on country roads speed limit 50 the occasional stop sign and light. The get up and go is lost with the 33's. I know some of that is the weight of the tires and rims. Getting some aluminum rims and tires that aren't as heavy as a TSL would be better for highway.

This just seals the deal for me. No more 33's with 3.73's unless I am going wheeling. which of late isn't very often.
I can't wait for 4.56's and 33's. Of course it will absolutely suck on the highway. But I don't like going above 60 with the tires on there it gets a little hairy.
I wonder what 0-60 time will be with 4.56 and stock tires.

whenever i had the 33's on my truck i was running 3.73 gears.....wasn't bad....i dont think if you are running 33's that your truck is a race truck so you dont really need speed off the line.....wht the 3.73's and 33's, the truck would still spin the tires from a stop..........i got 15 mpg with that setup.....if you ever plan on going bigger, then plan on regearing....

33's is it for now, next step would potentially be SAS and 38's which would constitute gears and obviously a lot of other stuff. But while its ttb 33's will be as big as I go. I'm thinking I'm gonna be getting about the same gas mileage as I am now with my 31's (13-14 mpg) because my X terrains are new and very agressive treads which killed my gas mileage. The 33's will be Trxus MT's with about 50% tread left. Trans life is a big concern, the next mod will be a very large trans cooler. But the trans should be fine because my driving is rareley stop and go so the heating up issue isn't as prominent as it is for some. I live in a small town and jump on the highway for a half hour everyday to got to school. Other than that it's just down to the MX track whic is the primary reason I'm doing this (VERY muddy acess road where everybody gets stuck) This is my DD but I think I'll be OK. More opinions welcome.

Im running 33's and 3.73's right now with my 4.0 Auto. It's a little less peppy off the line but it's not like it was great before the lift and tires. I still manage to average somewhere around 15mpg. I can still burn the tires on pavement and it turns them good in the mud. No doubt, it could be better. But im satisfied with what ive got

Yeah. I'm happy with what I got. It's by no means bad with the 3.73s. I'm kind of with Maurice on this one. I have a Ranger with 33's... I'm not going for speed of any sort. This ain't no 5.0 speed demon. No reason to kick it down off the line. It gets me where I'm going and I'm getting about 15mpg.
I'm probably gonna get some 4.10's or 4.56's soon simply because of the fact that I want some lockers, and might as well re-gear it while it's open, as sooner or later this thing is gonna become a straight wheeler/every so often work truck.
