i made a thing out of wood to put on a regular jack...aand it is ghetto as hell. i have found once trying to put the transmission in that my truck isnt high enough...and i cant exactly jack it up any higher...soooo if you have done this and you are hearing what i am saying and you have felt my pain...how did you get through it and let me hear some tips! Thanks guys

 

I use a 12x12 that's about 15" long with a V cut into it to act as a cradle. Then that goes ontop of the regular floor jack. Seems to work well for me. But the last tranny drop, I just man handled the thing in and out.

I believe on my chevy I had to do a 2x4 under the V block to get the trans high enough...my jack goes up to I believe about 23".

We made a cradle out of 6 2x4's about 12" long each. Two vertical wide enough for the jack to slip into but not move around, two horizontal perpendicular to the first two, and then two vertical parallel with the first to wide enough to cradle the tranny.

If you think dropping it is hard with out a tranny jack, wait until you have to bolt it back up. If I didn't have torsion bars I dont think we could have done it. Torsion bar bracket made a great fulcrum to use a 2x4 as a lever to lift and lower the tranny little bits at a time while lining it up with the motor.

 

i rolled my windows down put a 4x4 across and put 2 ratchet straps threw the access panel in the floor is sucked but it worked

 

dont keep any body parts under the ranny and run ratchet straps around the tranny connected to the jack if you can. The trannys a relatively light (120ish) so it wont be real bad. I have pretty much mastered taking out a tranny w/o a tranny jack. but it does go much easier with a good friend. The stronger the better.

 

i picked the SOB up and put it in with no jack...

 

Nowadays I just have the jack there to rest my arms....just manhandle the damn thing. lol.

 

you cheat tho you get the luxury of having a lifted truck Idc if you do use jack stands its way easier on a lifter ranger vs stock lol

 

wow...so what im hearing is just man handle it huh? i was thinking about that because it isnt that heavy...and it is stock so i have it on jack stands...thanks guys ill try it out.

 

At one time I didnt have a lifted truck....had to do it with the truck on stands(and still do actually). LOL...did trepaul's truck while the tires were still on the ground. lol.

 

Have the jack with the wood there under the trans to rest the trans on when you arms get tired.

 

ahhh i see...ok...should i have the whole truck lifted up with 4 jack stand or are 2 in the front enough?
