Hey when i finally do get my BL and 33's or 35's, i know ill have to regear i have 3.73s, will i need to regear the front too if i mildly offroad???

if your truck is 4wd you cant have different size tires or gears in the front or back. you wont be able to use 4wd if you dont regear so its a must your cant just do one you have to do both.

 

Kinda dumb.....but hey....i've never seen it covered here.


Yes...you need to regear the front also. But in all reality, you got a 4.0L and 4spd auto....your fine for 33's. 35's, you gotta regear.

But......you can be okay with 4.10 in the rear, and 3.73 in the front.....because that's what i was running in my chevy....and was kinda of a b!tch always having to unbind the tcase when i was wheelin'. lol. I was cheap. I advise not to do that.

 

I had 4.10's in the back and 3.73's up front at one point. I got stuck just driving next to a mud hole, had to put it into 4x4. I just kept all the wheel spinning so things didn't bind

 

I was told that if I wanted to regear the front of my truck from 3.73 to 4.10s, that I'd have to get a different carrier. Is this true?

 

hell no if you want to regear and your guna use a ratio that came stock on rangers go to a junk yard find a truck with the right gears and pull them, then get an install kit and it will be alot cheeper.

 

Or.....just grab the D35 from the yard with the correct ratio you want(4.10), and swap it in! Then sell the 3.73 D35!....who knows...might make money on the deal!

 

So shane you say its fine (3.73) for 33's.....Well i dont wanna put a strain on my engine or trans if i can help it...makes sense to go to a junkyard and get the gears out, but theres no gurantee on them being good right? i mean how much more is a junk yards gears or axle, compared to buying new gears and installing them?

 

If you go from 3.73s to 4.10s you will not even notice the difference. If your going to spend that kind of money to regear then make it worth your while and go to something like 4.56s.


And yes you MUST regears both front and rear.

 

well okie dokie then...Will MPG be any differnt with higher gears like 4.56 w/33s VS 3.73 w/32..i get 18-19

 

You'll probably get similar MPGs. Don't count on getting much better MPGs, but you never know.

I get around 18 in my truck and thats with 4.88s and 35s. All city.

Otherwise its just a BL w/33s for now
