I'm using Yukon's and so far so good. Also, if the setup is not right, breakage is very likely with ANY gears, lol.
Are you putting them in yourself? If so, be advised that most Dana diffs have a "carrier break" -- a ratio above which you require a different carrier. If you are using less than 4.10 gears now, you probably need not just the gears, but the carrier.
Furthermore, 4.88's are a PAIN to work with if you're going to put a powertrax type locker in or what-not. Also, on c-clip axles like our 8.8's.
You either have to take the carrier out and remove the ring gear to get the center pin out of the spiders, OR you have to grind a flat on the pin enough to pull it out past the ring gear.
4.88 ring is VERY thick -- the reason for this difficulty.

well the deal is...
scott - big04ranger that lives in indy has 4.56s he wants 4.88s to go with his new 37s
so i talked to him and he is installing the 4.88s i buy in his truck and then installing the 4.56s out of his truck into mine.
so basically we are doing a little swap sometime this summer.
he has motive 4.56s front and rear, and i will have a 4.88s in yukon for the front and 4.88s in motive for the rear.
should all work out great. i hope

my ranger came stock with 4.10s... im using stock carriers with the 4.56.. and yes powertrax are kinda tricky even on 4.56, so i know i have my fun cut out for me when reinstall time comes
just so every1 knows i have all the tools needed to set up gears. and have done quite a few gear set-ups

before, you can see where the pin will hit
after, you can see how little actually had to be taken off and how it will not affect the gear at all
