4WD not working properly

I have a 2008 XLT 4x4 that the 4wd works intermittently. It will go for weeks without working, then bam! It will engage. When I say it’s not working I mean that when I turn the switch to 4HI there’s nothing. No clicking, no light on the dash. Nothing. Same with 4LO. Then, like I said, out of the blue it will engage properly like nothing was ever wrong. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what was your solution?

Do you have a warranty?

Are you sure its not engaging or is the light on the dash just not working? That could be a sensor issue.

Sounds like your shift motor is crapping out or the switch itself. Had a similar problem in my Expo.

Not sure if the 4x4 lights will blink or what if the motor is going out.

Need to check if drivetrain is still under warranty. But, yeah. I'm positive that it's not engaging.
