Can you help me ID this transmission?

Guys and Gals,

Was sold this transmission as a replacement for my V6 4x4 4.0L 98 Ranger and it clearly does not match. I've purchased a different replacement and finished the job. Now I just need to sell this. Paid $400.

Trouble is there's no part number stamped on the side like I had on my others... Some sections of the side look like they may have been treated with a textured metallic coating that doesn't perfectly match the rest of the tranny, esp the bell housing.

What did I buy??? Appreciate any help.

It's definitely an A4LD for a 4x2 truck. It was last used in the early 90's. Can't tell you exactly what engine it fits without seeing the bellhousing pattern, but if it didn't physically bolt up to your engine, then it probably isn't for a 4.0. That just leaves the 3.0 and the 2.3.

That is an A4ld if that little plug has two pins it is an early A4ld if it has three it is an A4ldE.
That bell-housing looks like its for a 2.9.
Will stright up fit 88 and newer ranger with 2.9.
Will fit 4cyl trucks or cars also, with bell-housing swap.
As long as vehical matches 2 or 3 pin thing.
It will fit 4.0 also with bell swap.
I would have given my left one for ot month ago.
