I searched and didnt find a good thread on welders.

I'd like to know what welders you guys have, and what you use them for.

I've been looking to upgrade to a more powerfull welder once i have the funds. I have a chicago electric 110v flux core wire feed. It works great on lawn mowers and bikes but the only thing id trust it on my truck is the exhaust. I've been looking at a miller 212 mig, I like this welder because of its simplicity and its what i learned on in school. I've got a 220v line alredy ran out to my garage so im good there, I just want to see some of you guys have. I need something thats powerfull enough for bumpers sliders sas winch mounts exct.

 

I have a Lincoln 140Amp 120v welder set up with gas. Once I'm graduated and rich, I'll probably get a Miller 212 or a 251 if I'm making really big bucks. The Lincoln works really well for me for the time being though.

 

Miller hands down.
Although at school all we have are Lincolns, and there are no complaints from me as of yet.

Miller owns the shop, while Lincoln owns the jobsites. I see way more Lincoln engine welders than I do Millers.

 

ya i love the miller's too..

we have a clarke 220v gas/no gas MIG welder... you can use it with gas or without gas.. the last few days i've been playing with it welding some stuff on my john deere mower racer project and it does a good job.. my dad built like 10 single axle boat trailers they ranged from 28' to 33 feet in length with this welder and its held up... dad builds all kinds of crap, trailers, mowers, a lawnmower racer stacker thing, milk stands for the goats etc...

when we built the shop (30'x40' roughly 1250 sq ft) we put in a seperate power pole for it and box and ran 220v wire to it so we could run a 220v welder. now that im laying down some nice beads finally i dont mind not using gas.. the welds hold up real well.

 

we have millers and lincolns at school i started on a lincoln first few weeks then it shorted out and i moved to miller i like the miller 100 times better

 

not around here most of the oilfield welders use millers ive seen a few lincolns but not many

 

Not the best welder but it sure does get the job done... I want gas really bad though!

Hobart 175, (since replaced by the 187 bu Hobart). GREAT all around welder for the home. I've done two long arm TJ lifts, tons of fabbing, and tons of "play". Has yet to let me down, though the new smaller 210 (not Ironman) looks real good)

Miller Thunderbolt XL AC/DC. I had a Lincoln "tombstone" AC before the Miller, think the tombstone held an arc better. The thunderbolt just does not weld the same.

 

I'm still borrowing my coworkers Miller 250, and i really don't want to give it back lol

 

lincoln 140hd (guessing the hd means home depot being that is where i got it from), still need the tank though. works good so far.

 

Ive got a little 120v lincoln I use around the house..but Ive got access to about 8 welders..

anything from miller aluminum MIGs, Miller Dynasty(best invention ever) 480v lincolns...miller 212s

 

Clark 130EN, picked it up barely used... I like it!

 

Hobart 135 MIG (awesome little machine)
Hobart Tigmate (simple and reliable)

I'd love to upgrade the MIG but I haven't come across a good reason to yet.

 

Miller 180

 

I have a Hobart Handler 210. I love it! I have single passed 1/2" with it and it does a fantastic job even with material that thick. However, that is just about the limits of this machine. I will always keep this thing around. It does an awesome job and is super reliable. It has never let me down. One day I might get a miller 252 or a 212, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.

I'd recommend any miller or hobart (which is made by miller) to anyone. They are great machines.

 

The place i used to work we used mostly Miller but we had a few Lincolns...

We had miller Diesel Generator Welders
as well as miller Gas Generator Welders.


I personally Like the Millers.
We also had a Miller Suitcase welder that used a plane old house outlet and did everything. Tig, Mig, Arch, also did aluminum... It was very compact and it also had overheat protection. It was awesome and i believe the cost was about 2000$ but worth every penny and then some.

 

miller 212 mig with auto set. I love it. I also have a Miller arc and love that also.

 

Hobart Handler 210 here as well. Does most everything I need.

Licoln weldpack hd. More than enough for me.

 

Miller 251 never let me down.
