7.5's are c-clip axles. With drum brakes, if you break a c-clip, your drum/wheel/axle pulls right out of the housing.

My superior shafts (strongest you can get) with 6-lug flange were ~250 shipped. They are 31-spline though and 6-lug, dunno if that really affected the cost or not.

how much would the yukon splines run? The thing is i would be running 4.56 gears to keep some go in the truck thats why i wanted to replace the 7.5. BUt if I put in a full detroit and the yukon splines with 4.56 gears, i won't run into any trouble down the road?

They can make an axle for anything...

For a 7.5 to have 31 spline you would have to change out to bigger bearings in the tubes, a bigger carrier that is 31 spline. It's not possible to my knowledge. Neither is making a 28 spline 8.8 a 31 spline (it might be possible, but not even worth it).

You'll get 28 spline shafts

personally i say save your $$ on the new shaft. unless you are gonna do some hardcore stuff youll be fine. i have abused my axle and its holding up. like i said before...7.5", 33s and detroit. just my $.02

So the concensus here is that the factory LS on the Lvl 2's will need replacing after awhile? Like how many miles? and, would it be better to go with a new LS from the dealer instead of buying a used one? and what about installation costs? and how do you check the reputation of a shop that does this kinda work? or should i mention it to my service mgr at hte dealer and let the dealer do it? ya, know, i am just interested in like, when theres the possibility of getting stuck both wheels turn in stead of just one....

Unless you break it, the geared Torsen L/S on the LII should give reasonably consistent performance for the life of the vehicle.

The L/S available on other Rangers is Ford's Traction-Lok. It is a clutch type L/S with friction discs and may require periodic rebuilds during the life of the truck. How often is determined by how much abuse the diff sees.
