What about California emissions?

Hi All:

I just bought a 2004 Ranger Edge and it seems like a pretty good pickup so far. I was looking at something the other day. A part and I can`t remember what it was. Anyway the description said this part would not work on a Rangers sold in California so that is why I forgot about it. My truck was first sold in Louisiana. Well, anyway, i was looking under the hood the other day and low and behold the sticker that gives plug gaps says the truck is 'California certified' or something like that. So does that mean it will have to have the parts a pickup sold in California has when there is a choice or does that mean that from the factory it was built to be capable of having the stuff put on it to make it comply with California smog laws? I`m puzzled. Any thoughts?

Your truck conforms to California emissions and smog requirements
and the last part of your sentence is correct.

I was afraid of that LOL. Now I can`t even remember what the part was. I guess that means the only way I can find out if I need to order a California part is by ordering from the Ford house by the VIN. Will the pickup throw a code if it doesn`t see the right part? I wonder what all parts are different?

Anyway Thanks himecraig!

The one recent time was when I had a 'vortex' cold air intake on an f150, the truck usually is certified but intake was not California smog certified so I could not pass smog and get new tags.
Luckily the guy I bought used from gave me the stock intake...so I slapped it on and tossed the aftermarket intake.
Truck ran much better anyways without the junky intake and eventually i replaced the equally crappy aftermarket exhaust kit.
I figured with a 5.4L not much else is needed sound wise.
