is this legal? probably not

Slow down there tough guy. The part of my post you conviniently chose not to quote makes it pretty clear I was joking around. The post wasn't directed at you, it was directed at the op who from his "let the bashin begin" comment I'm guessing probably has enough of a man unit to take the joke without feeling like he needs to call someone retarded. You must be missing a couple key pieces.
let the bashing begin is in reference to people not liking the idea, not an open invitation to people who think they are carrot top

It's nice that there is a place like this where people like you can come to talk sh*t to people like me without having to worry about keeping your teeth in your head. You said your piece, I got it, now stfu. If the OP reads as much into my comments as you've found the need to, I'll be happy to apologize and wish him the best of his luck with his door removal - thanks for your input.

Sorry man, jumped down your throat a bit there - and sorry to everyone else for derailing the thread into a BS fest. All the women in my life (Wife, mother, sister) work with handicapped children - it's worn off on me and I get jumpy when people throw retard around. At any rate, was just trying to be funny - take it or leave it but believe me it ain't worth the time to get offended over.

im not referring just to the roof, im talking about body/ frame flex. not to mention in a head on crash, the doors are what help keep the cab from imploding. do it if you want but dont expect the insurance to pay for it when its totalled in an accident without doors.
Anyways, this argument (doors vs no doors) reminds me of (sunroof vs no sunroof). Basically a ton of people post without knowledge.
One thing to point out, the rear door on a 4 door ranger is the structural Pillar, not the door. Not saying the door doesn't help out, just in a rollover it generally just bends. You definately should have a halfdoor though because if you rollover onto a stump or something sticking through your door you will most likely get crushed. Especially since there's no 6 inch lip to catch your feet.

If your truck is totalled they're not going to say "the doors failed! If he had doors the truck would've not gotten crushed by that semi!". Well they are, but you'll just call em dip****s and sue em.

As far as the legality of it, when I lived in Arkansas, you had to have a lip at the bottom that was either 4 or 6 inches tall. Can't remember the exact number. You also had to have a tube/bar/something about half way up the "door" to keep the passenger in the vehicle. A guy in the 4x4 club I was a member of took a stock Chevy door for his K5, cut the shell like the pictures above, closed the gaps with flat steel, welded a tube across the center of the door at, "arm rest level" then braced it with a couple more tubes forming a more or less X under the cross tube. (Hope that makes sense) From there you could get a piece of canvas or sail cloth and attach it to make a soft door for cooler days.

REGARDLESS, that is just a huge heat score right there...
something that i just realized... if anyone has any question about the structural advantage of the doors, go flex your truck out HARD on something, especially when it's lifting a front tire, rather than a rear... there are a few pics of my truck on here with the rear left tire off the ground, while my front tire is up a 4 foot dirt pile, i couldn't close my door, after i opened it, not that i tried really hard, the flex in the body made the door not line up... it hit the frame and i didn't want to scratch my door frame with the door, so i waited till i got back on flat ground before i closed it

I'm sure I had mine twisted up and in more screwy places more than yours and I never had an Issue. And I where did i say it wasn't possible? I just said do it, stop asking questions and do what ever he wants.
..that being said, before you come back with another smart *** comment. I know Rangers have a ton of frame flex.

On that note, If you wanted to run with out doors, I would make an interior roll frame in the cab, similar to whats in drag cars and only then would I feel safe enough to run doorless in a ranger. I've seen too many threads lately of rangers rolled during what could be considered regular driving.... Around here there are a few full sized trucks doorless that I have seen, but most are hunting rigs and not a dd....

i used to roll my 4 runner with no top or doors in the summer... never got looked at twice. i we even givin a compliment by a cop after i came around the drive through. i highly doubt anyone would hassle ya for this. and if your doubting the legality of it. check some statutes out in your state

i never said you said it wasn't possible, so i'm not entirely sure what you are getting at there... and i'm not planning on coming back with any smart *** comments, nor have i, nevermind ANOTHER... i don't think we are or were arguing about anything here...

no need to appolojize (sp?) we are all friends on here, even though some of us (me included) are sometimes pmsing lol
my door would have closed, if i really wanted to, but i didn't want to try, as i had just bought it, and didn't want to scratch the paint on the door, or the sill... it was rubbing for sure though...
if you take a look at the pics in this thread, you can see it is still open...
https://www.ranger-forums.com/f15/fl...ex+end+flexing
anyways, we are way off topic...
back to the OP, there is obviously a big amount of people who have opinions on both, i'm on the fence... i wouldn't run NO doors, but i would love to have a set of tube doors...

Actually, most rangers have a half door conversion feature built right in - just like the crankable t bars! The steps are as follows:
1. Jack the truck up at least 6" off the ground front and back, making sure you are level side to side and front to back
2. Grasp the handle on the door panel of the driver's side firmly (but not TOO tight), and rotate clockwise 6 to 7 times, or until it will no longer rotate freely - DO NOT FORCE BEYOND THIS POINT
* In some models this feature is electronic...refer to your chilton manual or consult a certified ford mechanic to activate the half door feature if you have an electronic door reducing module in your vehicle. The switch to activate this feature is located in very close proximity to the door position permanitizing switch, and if you hit the wrong one your doors will no longer open.
3. Repeat this procedure on the passenger's side door
4. Slowly lower the truck
* Jacking the truck up to begin with is actually entirely optional
You now have half doors on your ranger! (in technical terms, your "windows" are now "down")
JK man, there is a pic on here somewhere of someone wheeling with his doors off flexed on a rock and it looks pretty BA and actually very handy if you are going to be crawling around a lot. Pipe doors seem like the way to go, as the doors are somewatt structural. Good luck!
