wanting 4wd so bad
Well some buddies and me went offroading today and i rode with a buddy that has a 2001 z71 lifted 6inces and 36in super swampers. We was going threw this fresh logging road and its been rainin here for the past 3 days so it was soggy as hell. We was making it alright til obie ( he has a 2000 f150 with a 9 inch lift and 38in bfg mt) got stuck in a skidder rut. So drew and me decided to show him whta the z could do and well...it sunk up to the doors trying to pull him out. We got the trucks out with 2 other 4x4 trucks and a ford tractor, and after all that i wish i could find a 4x4 around here thay was a good price. I really want 4x4 cause all my friends have them and ride every weekend and i have to ride with one of them cuz my 97 wouldnt make it anywhere...
so guess the look for a 4x4 is no started HAHA

I feel your pain man. 4 banger 2wd.. I really want 4x4 too. I have a couple friends who have 4x4 and never use it.. Pisses me off. But thats okay, you count your blessings and save up for your dream machine in the mean time.
and if you cant wait, throw some All terrain tires on it. I did that to mine and it does reasonably well off road. Just know your limitations and you can still have a good time.

Or get a set of cheap junkyard wheels and put some m/ts on them. Then anytime your going to go wheeling you just switch out the rear wheels.
timpat, I think you should sas your truck and convert it to 4wd in the process. I havent looked at it much but I think you could do it for what it would cost for a new truck.

living in New England, I did 2wd with the ranger, and I got stuck in a little bit of slush
since then I got 4wd with no regrets in any snow, slush, or gravel
if you're getting a 4.0, the gas mileage and maintenance costs will suck, but if you can afford it and will use it, 4wd in a truck is the way to go

i picked mine up at a local salvage yard... they jus got the ranger in that mornin...it was still on the truck for that matter and had 71xxx miles on it and i got quoted 300 if they pulled it and 200 if i pulled it...so i took 30 minutes outta my day and pulled it myself..even got offered a job there after that haha...
