Rough idle normal in a 3.0 ?

Hey all,
Me again. Trying to better understand my Ranger. It idles a bit rough. No pinging or knocking at all, just rough idle. I have seen some say it is normal???

Is it?

Thanks a ton.
Bye

My 1994 will start up, rev normal for a few seconds then drop to 300-400 and almost stall for about 10 seconds then rev up to 1000 and be fine, I think my IAC is going bad, though.

well.. a *slightly* rough idle is normal, but i guess your idea of rough and mine might be different. even before i had modded my truck, the idle was just a small bit rough, but basically in the normal range, from my experience. Roller rockers REALLY smoothed the idle out though... I can barely feel a thing now :o)

Yeah, what Brian said with regard to what "rough" is, lol.

I'm thinking about those roller rockers. I know RoguePerformance sells/used to sell them. Brian, did you have to modify anything to get them to fit?

nothing major.. just tapped the stud holes on the heads to fit the new rocker studs. considering other stuff i've seen you install/wire/fabricate/etc for your truck, i'm assuming the rocker install would be an absolute cakewalk for you, john. Fred on RPS put the kit together, and wrote up detailed instructions, specific to our 3.0's, which makes it even easier.

Cooler oil temperatures, less valvestem wear, less noise, smoother idle, more torque and hp... it's a GREAT mod and it gave a noticeable pick-me-up, especially between 3 and 4k rpm.

Yes, that's the same Fred I think I'm buying my custom tunes from I believe. He also runs www.rogueperformance.com. He's a 3.0 guru.

So far, Fred is the only one who has bothered to answer my email inquiries about special tune files.

Thanks for the info.
