disconnecting a/c pump

Plus when you have the truck on Defrost, Floor/Vent, and Defrost/Floor settings on the HVAC it runs the A/C compressor to remove moisture from the cab to defog/frost your windows quickly. Try it out while its hot out and the temp setting on cold. You'll notice that on any setting besides just dash vents and floor the air will get cold. Otherwise, the compressor is off and just free wheeling...no loss of MPG.

Floor only and vent only it should not run.
I like the fact i can defrost my windows quicker when its not freezing out. i really dont like to run my heat on a hot setting.
Since doing the EATC though I can turn the compressor off from inside.
If you wire up a switch on the purple wire off the controls you can do the same thing.
The recharge kit for the auto parts store will do the job. The issue is that the oil running though keeps the seals from drying out and leaking. Not sure what is true. I just run it all year if my windows fog up.

...Terry
ps. it is not the purple wire in a '08, they changed the color of the wire. I wrote the color down, if anyone wants, I'll find my notes.

I think you misunderstood what wire I was talking about. Putting a switch on the purple (most years) will kill the signal to the computer. Not bypass the system.

that sounds like the idea,if i open the wire at the computer that tell the compressor to turn on,i may save a little fuel,i can get the diagram with no trouble
another quick question-it seems that the engine wants to run at about 3000 rpm with me touching the fuel, the pedal is in the normal position-could this be LIM gasket ?

You're up in NB. Just unplug the wire to the compressor clutch.
I've done it for years (OK,Decades) with no ill effects to the system.
Plug it back in once or twice through the winter to cycle the system for a few minutes and you'll be fine.
Note to others:
In below freezing temps , the air is already dry , using the A/C will not help dry the inside of windshield.
Overuse of the defroster , however, could cause the windshield to crack.
