battery sparking

ok this might be tough to explain but the black terminal wire on my battery has a big wire that connects to the battery and then a smaller wire that attaches to the front of the engine compartment i believe would be called the ground. the weird thing is the ground wire isnt attatched to anything right now and my truck starts fine besides when i turn it over the black terminal sparks. but when i attach the ground my battery is like its dead. it wont even turn over then i take it off again and my truck will start. any thought on what the deal is? has anyone experienced this before?

Umm, don't touch anything, but I would check with a dealer or mechanic on that one, because I have seen people hook up the ground to a piece of metal, that connected to the main computer, and wham bam, 5,000 dollar repair there
