engine quit
Yesterday,I was going home and my 2005 Ranger Edge with a 3 liter V6 started making a slight rattle.My oil light came on and went off and then came on again.I took my foot off the accelerator pedal and pushed in the clutch to stop.As soon as I pushed in the clutch, the motor shut down like the ignition had been switched off. There was no loud noise,no fluid leaks,but the motor would not turn over. I got it towed home and the engine would not turn over even with a wrench on the drive shaft. The engine has 70,000 miles on it and the oil was changed every 3,000 miles. I put on a new starter at the suggestion of a friend,but the engine would not turn over.i feel like the engine seized,but I know nothing about motors.Any help will be appreciated.

+1, yes, that would be my guess as well with provided information.
If oil light came on with RPMs high it would mean the main bearings on the crank, along with other bearings, would heat up pretty fast.
Many think the oil is just a lubricant, in an engine it is also part of the cooling system.
Losing oil pressure is like losing the water pump, it's actually worse, instant overheating occurs.
Bearings are made of a softer metal, on purpose, if they get too hot they get very soft and "spin" inside the cap/journal.
At that point the damage is done.
When you reduced the RPM and then pushed in the clutch the drag on the crankshaft from the "spun" bearing cause engine to stall, and starter motor doesn't have enough torque to turn over engine with a "spun" main bearing.
When it cooled off the "spun" bearing is, in essence, welded to both the journal and the crankshaft, seizing the engine until bearing is removed.
Yes this would require a rebuild or engine exchange.
As to why it happened, yes could have been the Cam synchronizer failed which would shut off the oil pump, unfortunately this doesn't shut off the engine instantly, so major engine damage can occur.
Could be the oil pump failed or even the high pressure valve failed, diverting all oil back to pan instead of to filter.
