steering wheel

My stock wheel is getting kinda funny on top. Its getting bubbly and faded. What would you guys reccommend I should do? Get a steering wheel cover? I heard that wheelskins are pretty good. How difficult is it to put in a new wheel? Any opinions are appreciated.

Cheap easy fix: Wheel Cover. But I absolutely HATE wheel covers...makes the wheel WAY too thick....so.....

The right way to do it(what I'm about to do): Replace wheel with brand spankin' new one. Or a really good condition junkyard one.

remove the side plugs (spend 10 min cussing and trying to find side plugs in the truck) take out the screws holding the air bag, unplug the airbag(while not breathing praying it doesnt go off), remove the center torx bit and pull hard and have the steering wheel smack you in the face..

open your driver door.. go eye level with the steering wheel on the side... you will see a round plastic plug in the steering wheel cover that is if you have the steering wheel straight...

I wanted to do this too but brand spankin new steering wheels are like $14,000 from the dealer.

Wheelskins are good, but a pain in the *** to put on. At first when I was starting I was like pshhh this will take me like 10 mins tops. Holy crap was I wrong lol, it took like 45mins to do mine lol. I have no patience so it didn't come out as good as it should have, not bad but not like it should have came out. I'm going to buy another and redo mine eventually. My friend has a tan one on his truck and its all crappy looking now, so I suggest getting a black one if you are going to do it.

They don't make the wheel feel like any thicker, it fits so tight that you can still feel the bumps on the backside of the wheel too.

Mechanic friend of mine says that to disconnect the battery for at least 20 minutes, an hour or more is better, then remove the air bag cover.
I have not installed a wheel skin personally, but my neighbor installs a couple a month and maybe more. His secret seems to be soaking them in warm water and installing them when it is warm out.
