Maglite A-Piller (How? Pictures? Maglite Sizes?)

I want to purchase a maglite and some mounts to do the A-Piller maglite install. How do you remove the handle, and is there anything funky about screwing in the mounts?

I don't currently own a maglite, so I'm wondering what size to get. I was thinking maybe 4D cell, but that's really just a shot in the dark after searching what people are saying.

Could you guys post pictures of your A-Pillar mounts and specify the maglite size and any advice you have?

Also, how well do the mounts hold the light? I would prefer to be able to easily rip out the light, but at the same time not worry about the light falling if I slam the door closed.

Here's one picture I found from Interceptor (I don't know the maglite size though):

Thank you.

1) How do you remove the handle, and is there anything funky about screwing in the mounts?

You remove those two little covers at the top-end of the handle and there's a screw inside each slot. Just unscrew those out.

To my knowledge, it doesn't really matter. I say get whichever one that is on sale, they'll both perform about the same. ( I got mine at Costco for ~$20 that also came with a smaller maglite)

3) Could you guys post pictures of your A-Pillar mounts and specify the maglite size and any advice you have?

Sorry, no pictures here. ( I mounted mine somewhere else). But I really don't like the idea of putting a huge, heavy metal thing right by my head. In the even of a collision (knock on wood), that maglight is right there with the top of your head. I don't know, just doesn't seem safe. But do what you please

4) Also, how well do the mounts hold the light? I would prefer to be able to easily rip out the light, but at the same time not worry about the light falling if I slam the door closed.

The mounts are actually REALLY freakin awesome. Mine holds my light really well and it does take a little tug to get it off. So... on the mounts.

Get the 2 or 3 D one (i have the 3). The 4 wont fit properly on the A-Pillar

They will hold perfectly. I've had it in the truck for about a year and a half without a single problem, including all the times i have been out off-roading (and man it sure had a ****load of chances to fly out ) When taking out the light just pull the top out then bottom (not striaght out).

where in OC do ya live, shoot me a PM maybe we can meet up and i'll give you a hand if i'm free/close

Thanks for the pics, it looks like a 2D wouldn't even fit in there securely.

I live close to where the 91 & 5 freeway meet, if your familiar with landmarks I'm a few miles south of Knott's Berry Farm. I really appreciate the offer to help, but this sounds like one of the few mods that I can do myself. (ME = no experience/mechanical knowledge/skill)

Eh, what would you want to do? I'm actually at work, and will be there all day. Followed by date-night (w/ an asian chick ). I'm pretty sure I dont have anything going on Saturday until 8PMish if your still in town.

Oh yeah, I'm a young'en... and look younger than I am.

i have a 4 d-cell in mine and it just fits....i also bought the nite eye clips and mounted the one closst to the ceilign a little lower, (think the upper hole). as a good way to keep it from movign around i also put gaffes tape on the inside of the clips...gaphers tape is MUCH better then duct tape and will not leave a crappy residue and also looks much nicer.....the gaphers tape won't let the maglite turn or anything..but it is still a breeze to pull out

I have a 3cell, but i dont have the mounts for it......they run like 18 something here.....and they have a 2 cell with the LED bulb in it now that runs like 33 somethin...

If you have a 4 door, right now i can fold down my rear seat, and lift the top up, and slide it in the extra fabric where the corner of the L is.....and then shut it and fold it up, it doesnt move and its out of the way...until i get my mounts, but i wouldnt want it on my a-pillar because i use it everytime i get in my truck....specially if you getin a wreck....that thing is air born

I'm gonna move mine over to the passenger side. Dual gauge pod is going in! I get compliments all the time on the mag lite location. It sure is nice to know WHERE the maglite is when you need it. You also know where to put it because you know where you got it from.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went out and bought a 3D maglite and D-cell maglite mounts today.

I removed my A-Pillar and only saw two screw holes, my mount needs 4 holes, so I assume I am just supposed to make the extra holes? .... Or is there a different mount to buy or something? I don't want to be making holes I don't need to be making. =)

EDIT: ALL DONE.
