does anyone know how or whats the best way to wire a aux cable so can run an ipod on a stock 2003 ranger radio, i dont want to use the cigarette lighter jack anymore as crapy quality...

Honestly your better off just getting a aftermarket deck with usb and aux.

First check the rear of your radio and see if you have a large 20 pin connector.



If you do then there are options other than an aftr mkt replacement.






The USA Spec Unit plugs in the CD Changer port (20 pin Connector) and give you two connectors, one is an iPod Connector allowing complete transfer of the digital signal and the other is a 3.5mm Pin Connector to cover any other type of music making device.

I am using Pioneer Component SPeakers in the Doors of my Ranger and when the iPod plays you can here every little note, IMHO it sounds great.

There are two modes, one for plying off a list which you have to make and name FORD1 thru 5 and then there is the mode where you are suppose to be able to just play from the iPod Control. I have not used this mode because I set it up to run off the List Mode and you need to change some switches to run the other mode.

Again IMHO… I think this is the best alternative to a new radio, cost may not be too cheap over $100 but I think it is a great unit.

My daughter even mentioned to me one morning we were riding to breakfast, that the radio sounds great, I said its a FORD…

aftermarket deck but use the usb port-it sounds better. but if not you could try the cassette that plugs into your headphone jack. not the best quality but it sounds ok

 

BUT if you like the OEM Radio and don’t want to change anything, this unit is plug and play IF you have the 20 pin connector.

PAC Audio is another good source for iPod intergration. I've used PAC products many times with good results. For your truck you need the PXDP and the vehicle specific harness (so everything is plug and play) which should be part # PXHFD3.

PAC stuff looks a lot like the USA Spec stuff or vice-versa.

 

It is similar stuff, I've personally used PAC Audio equipment a number of times and its always performed as advertised.

I also go to PAC audio for a AUX In. You would still need and want to use the vehicle specific harness for a simple install.

For many factory intergration installs, I've used PAC Audio many times and have always been happy with the results.

 

I just installed the USA Spec in my 2011 Ranger. Install was a snap and I can access the playlists on my iPod, with playlist and track info being displayed on the stock head unit. If you are considering going this route, be advised that the cable that connects the satellite tuner to the USA Spec box has to be at least 15' long. There were several spots I found for it under the dash, but I couldn't use any of them because there was no place to stash that much cable.

 

Mine went in really easy.
iPod/Radio sounds great.
You can have five Play Lists with a large amount of songs (I have approx 150 songs on each of the Play List) and on the last setting and with switches in the correct position, you can run it off the iPod itself.
