been? With I/M readiness
Hello this is my first time in the Ford ranger forum.
I have a 1997 5 speed Ford ranger. Needed to pass smog test.. It passed the smog part.. However the I/M readiness came up with x's and didn't pass the HCAT, EVAP and AIR.
The smog station told me to go thru a drive cycle.. so I did and still wouldn't pass so I did two more drive cycles and still wouldn't pass.. Any ideas what it could be?

Welcome to the forum
Ford OBD2 readiness tests seen here: Ford Motor Company Driving Cycle
Computer may be stuck in a loop(software) so is not testing all components in a timely manner and needs to be reset
If you don't have a OBD2 reader that can due a full reset then unhook either battery cable for at least 5 min and then hook it back up, this will reset computer
(Clearing codes is NOT a reset)
Then do the tests as described
One drive cycle = coolant temp below 130deg then warmed up to above 170deg then cooled down below 130deg again
Key off and on is not a new drive cycle
Some tests need 2 to 4 drive cycles to complete
