03 Ranger XL spindle/wheel bearing issue
I just came in the house and don't feel like stepping outside to take a photo so I found one that's the same pretty much. Anyways I've been fighting my wheel bearings, they're tapered in the front. My spindle looks like this...
Anyhow...I keep getting slight growl and noise...and just feeling how it drives that something isn't right. I took off everything and the rotor today thinking...maybe the new ones I bought just so happen to maybe not have the races installed in them already and I made a rookie mistake. Nope, they're there. But my spindle, I notice where some of the grind is coming from...where it's painted red it's grinding the back of the inner bearing...not horrible, just slight, but you can feel it at around 40 by its runt runt sound....then around 50-70mph it hums and I get shimmy going most of the time. The inner bearing is ok, I double checked. It's actually still looking ok after driving it for a while, no pitting. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Could it be the torque on then nut maybe, I've tried hand tight, a little past hand tight and impacted on slight. Same issue. I feel like I'm still doing something wrong maybe since I don't have much experience with tapered bearings even after watching some youtube videos. What's funny, I had a friend do the passenger side because why not...if he can fix it great. He forgot the grease seal....it rode home great actually, no issues at all...remembered he forgot it and I installed one and it started having issues again. I'm thinking....but don't I need a grease seal on the inner???? What you all think?
