First im new to the ranger i have a 97 xlt swd 5spd 4 banger...and have already been trail riding. I have michelin Xc tires which i searced and they are mud snow tires, but they arent aggressive like i need...im new to the trail/mud riding thing and jus need more traction. Anyone know a good tire thats close to stock size for a 14in rim? i dont want to go over 225/70 if i can. Jus want somethig good on road and pulls good on loose dirt and alil mud

 

BFG A/T's are a good trail tire, but they suck in mud!

ok know its a old post but hey...its my post lol anyway i still have the trcuck and wanted to know what would upgrading to 30 x9.59x 15 do to my truck, i have the 3.73 open rear end...what gear ratio would that put me at? i was trying to find a calculator for it but couldnt, and would i need a lift and would i need any power adders? thanks guys

 

those tires would be fine. redneckstone has 3.73's and 32" tires and a 4 banger

 

im running a 3.73 and 31's.
you will be ok, but a 4.10 is ideal.

how well do u turn the 31s? I wont be in the mud just wet dirt roads, and soggy red clay logging roads? Can you really notice any power issues

 

its noticible, but its not going to be the deciding factor in your offroad performance. having a locker, a good nut on your shoulders, and a intelligent right foot will help most.

ive got the same truck you hav,e had 31s for the past year and a half, and havent had any problems. just watch how you play the clutch.

i ran 35s on my truck for a couple weeks. now thats noticible.

...but go with 31 bfg a/t's..just run bigger coils and or coil spacers..i have coil spacers for sale that will fit your truck..it will bring ur front end up level to the rear..then u can fit some beefier tires...ill let em go cheap for you if u want em..all u need is bigger shocks and a allignment

 

when u say bigger shocks you mean for the front right? cuz i am interested in the spacers or a 2 inch body lift

 

and when i get tires, should i just get all terrians or do i need the extra bite? i wont be hitting mud holes all the time jus loggin roads and dirt roads

 

The A/Ts are a great all around tire. Which is both their best and worse feature. A great example would be a Ferrari with all-season tires on it. All the performance numbers would drop dramatically on dry pavement, but in snow it would be better than if it was wearing a set of high-performance tires. The point is if you want something for everything you make comprimize at the extremes. I personally think BFGoodrich All Terrains are the best all round truck tire out there, but if you want great mud performance get a set of mudders. From what it sounds like you plan on doing I think a set of BFG All Terrains and smart driving should do you just fine. As an added bonus, the A/Ts drive much better on the street.
