1997 2.3 egr question

Hey folks.. I have a question for y'all.. I was under the hood of the Ranger doing some check overs.. I noticed something on my EGR.. The top of it has a "cap" over it.. I crossed ref'd with a 1998 and noticed the EGRs were kinda diff but it had a vacuum line coming out of the top.. I'v tryed and tryed to find a vac hose that was m.i.a.. Nothing.. If this is supposed to have a hose, can someone please point me in the right direction?? Thank you in advance..

Yes, that is just a vacuum cap, there should be a vacuum hose/line on there.

EGR systems have these parts
EGR Valve, vacuum controlled
EGR modulator/solenoid, vacuum valve the computer controls vacuum to EGR valve with
EGR sensor, tells computer if EGR valve opens and closes

In 1997 the 2.3l EGR sensor is a DPFE sensor, google that to see what it looks like.
It will have 2 hoses(not vacuum hoses) and an electrical connection
The hoses connect to EGR exhaust tube and exhaust manifold.

EGR modulator/solenoid will have 2 vacuum hoses and a 2 wire electrical connection.
One hose will go to Intake manifold(vacuum source), the other hose to the EGR valve

Your CEL(check engine light) should be on if EGR system is unhooked.

Previous owner may have disable the system out of ignorance or lack of funds to fix it.

EGR system prevents pinging/knocking so actually gives you more power

Find the EGR solenoid first, that will have the hose you seek or at least the port it connects to.

any luck with this? The previous owner cut my egr vacuum line. It never caused any harm, I changed my plugs now it misfires and has an insufficient flow of EGR :(

So actually I tried repairing the vacuum line that runs to the egr valve I found some extra line and tried that but my truck still clicks when I try and give heavy throttle at about 60 if I need to gain speed
