2.3 4 cylinder spark plugs thread repair. Calvan kit?
Greetings. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some help on this. Blew out a plug and need to rethread I see some various kits helicoil etc. I've worked with these before and am pretty handy so fairly confident I can do it. But, online I am seeing a product from Calvan that looks really good. It is a kit with an insert that is a solid piece with a lip on top which looks way better than just the threaded type, and numerous videos where they say that they have to repair the other types and always prefer to put in the calvan, and I can see why. The kit even comes with a little pressure thing to tell you when the two valves are closed so you don't get gunk inside. But the only kit they make that I see on their website is for the Trident or Triton or whatever engine. Guy at Ford says that that engine is particularly prone to breaking, so I can see why that's what they make. But can those be used on a regular 4 cylinder engine? If they are the same size it seems like there should be no problem. I don't think they make a kit for anything else but I really want to use these type if possible . Anyone know? Or, any suggestions on what kind of kit or system to use? I really do like the full insert collar with lip on the inside. They have a guide that the drill bit goes into which helps hold it steady and straight, and then a guide for the tap. The kits about 250 bucks which seems like a pretty good investment. I could probably use it and sell it if I want, or just keep it. Of course the other systems are cheaper but still. This system looks pretty good . Also, looks like my valve cover gasket is leaking oil down into the cylinder spot and the spark plugs are so recessed that I'm thinking taking off the valve cover to do this is a good idea. Any thoughts?
