How much do you think a nitrous kit should cost?

Guys, I'm wanting a reality check. I work (moonlight) for a nitrous company designing parts and stuff.

I'm needing to know what the "popular opinion" is for new nitrous kits.

PLease post your thought for each of the following questions.

1) How much do you *want* to pay for a nitrous kit?

2) Do you think a vehicle specific custom kit is worth paying more for?

3) How important is talking to the nitrous companies representitive.. and is this worth paying more for?

To the admins.. this post is nothing more than a reality check for me. I have no agenda and won't be advertising / suggesting one brand or the other. I just want to know what the average guy thinks about nitrous.

Regards, Rich

well... when i first started researching, everyone was telling me how you can fit a nitrous kit for like $500. as you and i both know, a barebones kit like that leaves quite a lot to be desired in basically every aspect of its design and completeness, so i ended up going with racetested. i think $1200 to $1400 would be completely reasonable for a kit that INCLUDES a progressive system and quality components. keep in mind there always seem to be additional costs, like buying new/different plugs, safety features like window switches, etc. etc, so just because someone drops $1500 on a full kit doesnt mean that the expenses stop there.

as far as paying more for a vehicle-specific kit... whats the point? so little needs to be changed to fit a universal kit to ANY vehicle.... usually it comes down to a vehicle-specific method for connecting to the fuel line, and thats it.

regarding speaking with a representative... i guess i'd be willing to pay more. in the case of racetested, i figure that i did... but denny's patience and long-term commitment to helping me with my nitrous questions, comments, and needs makes it worth it.

Tech support is a biggie to me which is why I always use NX. I can get support with very little wait. Others may be the same, I just know NX always come through.

Not using tech (listening to a non-nx salesman that sold it to me) left me on the side of the road with a melted spark plug. One call to support and -"that won't work, the fuel solenoid needs to be lowered to 5 psi if you are going to do that"

I ran an nx kit for a while, then I went with ZEX. A guy I went to college with handles alot of the development for ZEX so that is what I run now lol.

I paid 500 for my kit. 10LB bottle, bottle heater, purge kit, digital pressure gauge, blowdown tube and a few other bits and pieces.

It would also be nice for there to be a kit that would come with an upgraded fuel pump. That is something that I haven't seen any other company do.

Its not just the ' Kit ' itself, its the fuel system changes that need to be made as well ( at least in our trucks ) . I run window switches and a Hobbs switch as well. Nitrous doesn't blow up motors, idiots do.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have been spraying the hell out of cars for more than 12 years and I have chipped ONE valve in all that time and it was my fault. A complete kit including auto heater, window switch, purge, fuel pressure switch, 3 sets of jets and the ability to buy any combo you want, bottle and fuel pressure gauges (both electric) and a Walbro 255 lph pump would be worth 1100-1300 to me, depending on one thing, solenoid warranty.

I have used Compucar quite a lot after leaving NOS because of customer service issues. When I had an issue with a set of USED compucar solenoids with no reciept, they still rebuilt them for free with no questions asked. That is damn good service.

Over the years, I have used NX, NOS, Compucar, and Nitrous Works. Compucar has always had the best service to me (close to me, solenoids come back FAST) and NX has always had the beefiest solenoids but it would be pretty kick *** to get the whole package as one. People who buy a 400 dollar kit in a bag and go try to spray the biggest shot it has with no research and no clue are what kill motors and give it a bad name.

Also, a vehicle specific kit isn't needed. in 1997 I took a half of a NOS pro fogger setup and sprayed a hell of a direct port shot on a 1995 Ford Probe for over year when no one in this area ever even considered looking at a 4 banger as quick lol, I loved it. Kit's are too easy to switch from one to the other with no need for a specific setup. The only thing specific should be the fuel components as some cars have schrader valves stock, some have none and have to be made, some are returnless fuel systems and have to have one dedicated or something fabricated, things like that.

Just some food for thought.. A specific motor kit is best. Reason being that fuel drop out is an issue on long runner intakes. Basicly.. I'd want to see a direct port setup for shots over 25% power increases. Kinda supports that whole idiot idea.

Thanks for the input guys!

I doubt it's possible to split the fuel for a 50-75 HP shot between 6 cylinders. Maybe by lowering the psi to 5-6 psi on the fuel jets.
