2.3 Fuel pump amp draw
2.3 Fuel pump amp draw
06 Ranger 2.3 manual. Turns over no start. Intermittent problem. Replaced inertia switch. Replaced relay in fuse box. Amp draw measured at inertia switch is 6.5 to 6.9? No check engine light but I got P023 Fuel pump secondary circuit low and another fuel pump secondary circuit high before I replaced the relay? What’s the normal amp draw for the pump? Hasn’t left me sit since I replaced the relay but I haven’t driven it that much?
Welcome to the forum
At startup it can go as high as 10-12amps, but yes it should run 6 to 8 amps
It uses a 20amp or 30amp fuse usually, but that's for the wire size and distance, always, fuse is not for the device, its there to keep wires from melting and starting a fire if there is a short

Probably was, secondary circuit is the 12v power being sent to fuel pump
Primary circuit is the 12v being sent to the coil in the fuel pump relay used to close it
Fuel pump relay issue in not common, although many are replaced, lol
But with a Secondary power code coming up, relay would be most likely issue
