this IS NOT direct proof. this happens on cars that have stock exhaust with the SPRING BOLT FLANGE that you are so worried about in every single exhaust post that you make

Here is how i see it, if the factory put it there then it is there for a reason and subtracting it may cause problems

its not MY shop. its Doug's shop he owns it.. its a stock 2.3L it needs "true" flow? really news to me. also they didn't want to do my exhaust the way it is. he wanted to run a SI/DO muffler but being the SI/SO was on there for 2 years before and i didn't want to spend the extra big deal. still my truck.. and supposedly you still don't care.. yet to see that..

Located: Westland, MI (dont know address)
Name: D&J formally D&S

also this "true" flow you speak of. you did Justin's and did not get "true flow" sorry you shoved the pipe into the other to get this "true flow" if you wanted true flow you should have used something like this:

had a '88 2.3 with no cats ran just fine got better gas mileage. took the cats off my 4runner, it runs fine and gets better gas mileage. was thinking bout taking them off my 01 ranger but decided it wasn't worth the hassle and figured if it ain't broke don't fix it. cats rob power i don't care what any environmental guy says, they still suck. I know they serve a purpose and are supposed to help protect the environment and all. And I'm not saying everybody go take em off and frig up the atmosphere more than it is but they do rob power.

that should be reason enough to leave them on if they are still functioning properly

ANYTHING that reduces flow will rob power. Period. Don't give me any back pressure BS.

Firefighterjosh : Please, it's "you're" not "your" when compound "you" and "are". You're killing me.

I'd have to say that either a Gibson or a Hooker aero chamber would sound great and sure wouldn't be too loud.

I'd also like to add that the 2.3L engine needs a certain amount of back pressure and will run better with the stock exhaust and a well-functioning catalic converter. Yes, you might gain a little bit of horsepower running straight pipe and yes, it might sound better or louder, but, you will loose some of that precious torque and in extreme cases, you will burn the exhaust valves over time.
There is a reason why manufacturers like Toyota use a mere 1 and 5/8's of an inch diameter exhaust piping on their 4 cylinder trucks.

Now, on the other extreme, you have racecars with small block chevy's running open headers. This maximizes the horsepower and since they only run for 'a short amount of time' and the engine gets rebuild all the time, this is the way to go.

So, either way, there are benefits to be had, but for me personally, I keep mine stock, also because we have emissions testing
