92 Ranger starting and idle problems
92 Ranger starting and idle problems
So I have a 92 that I decided sat long enough and wanted to get her up and running but she doesn't want to start. It turns over but won't catch unless you give it tons of starter fluid and keep on the gas. When it does start it will only keep running if you keep on the gas pretty hard or it will die, so no idle. I tried the fuel pump reset but that didn't seem to be the problem. Any ideas on what to check or tweak are appreciated.
First time on this forum so sorry if this is in the wrong spot. If so let me know where to go so I can get her going. Thanks

Welcome to the forum
"Sat long enough"...................
Gasoline, the fuel part of it, evaporates and will no longer burn very well if it "sat long enough", gas tanks are not sealed like gas cans, so doesn't take all that long for it to start "going bad"
It also turns to a varnish in the fuel lines and fuel injectors.
How much fuel was in the tank?
You may want to drain it out, siphon it out, and add some "fresh gas", AND some Seafoam or similar injector cleaner to the new gas.
I would change fuel filter as well, $10
