cel codes and how to read them

My mechanic puts a wire in the connector to the pc and a single connector and reads the codes manualy. Does anyone have a diagram how to do this and a list of codes for my 90 ranger? I have done it before on a Probe but I had a diagram excatly which place to put it. I`m getting tired of driving back and forth. One of the codes was 88 and I can`t remember what it is?

Here is the method and the code list. It will work for OBD Rangers through 1994.
