Icon13 IS IT DEAD????

so on the way to work today i was driving and all the sudden my oil pressure gauge went down to very low... so i went to pull off the side of the road and my engine made a ton of screeching noises and turned off... now it wont do anything...

i am kinda assuming that its locked up.. it wont turn over or anything.

its an 02 with the 2.3 so either the oil pump or timing chain broke and now its seized?

thoughts other possibilitys?

Well I can't say I've ever heard an engine lock up, but by the way you described it, it could very well be

Either way I bet it won't be good to hear

pull the pan and inspect is probly the best place to start. if you had the squeeking/screeching noises are usually not great and tend to indicate bearings. if so you should have alot metal shavings in there. i also tend lean toward lots of banging going on if its your timing chain/belt due to valves and pistons colliding. like i said pull the pan. the fact that it was running may be a decent sign in an otherwise bad situation. it still may be salvagable

reset ecu? a modern motor shouldnt allow its self to seize solid, the computer should have killed the motor before catastrophic damage

Best move would be to take it in and let the dealer's service guys check it out... any way you look at the situation, it's going to cost you some folding money, so you might as well at least pay for an hour's labor to find out what the real problem is.
But the broken oil pump chain does sound like one plausible explanation... how long did the engine actually run with low oil pressure? An engine should actually run for a while without oil pressure... the sudden screeching noise puzzles me a bit... an engine running sans oil pressure usually just rattles a lot before it freezes up...
