distance on a tank

On the highway, I can get anywhere between 420-465 miles (my record to date, driving into the gas station with a sputtering engine, was 472 miles)
If its a lot of city driving, between 385-405
Thats in my 2.3L 93 Ranger XLT. I THINK my tank holds approximately 19.9 Gallons (have filled 19.7 - 19.8 Gallons a few times when very low on fuel, and thats the most I have seen)

I just recalibrated my PCM for the bigger tires I have.Originally my truck came with 225/70/15's and now has 255/70/16's.Before I calibrated the PCM I would go 260-270 miles on a tank which would be about 16-17 mpg.The last 2 tanks I went 320 and 332 miles which came out to 19.1 and 19.3 mpg.I generally fit 17-17.5 gallons in it when the light comes on .Obviously I am going the same distance and getting the same gas mileage as before but now I can read it accurately.I does make me "feel" like I am going further now on a tank even though I am not.Now my truck is going to rack up more miles but I just turned 175,000 this weekend so miles aren't a concern for me.I know my odometer is dead on now because I checked it on the highway with mile markers and after checking it for 10 miles straight it was still dead on.BTW,mine has a 19.5 gallon tank just like most if not all extended cabs. One time I did fit 18.9 gallons in it and that is too close to running out for me.I fill it right when the light comes on now and the gauge is actually a bit below empty.

1996 xlt 2.3 5spd manual I used to have a 3.73 rear end with 205 75 R14 tires with that set up I would average between 425 and 450 per 19 or so gallons. Then I put some bigger 30x9.50x15 tires on and my mileage went down to around 300. I just put a 4.10 rear on it weekend before last and it seems to be close to being back on par with the 3.73 and the smaller tires. Have not run a full tank out with the new gears yet, but so far it is looking real promising. especially with it costing close to $60 to fill the tank these days.
