Icon5 Evaporator Core Leaking Water

Hello,

Just bought a 2010 Ranger, noticed water dripping from behind the passenger front wheel, not coolant, traced it back to the AC evaporator core housing dripping water from the bottem (possibley the drainage port?) It was a hot day here but I was not running the AC. Why would this be leaking? Or is it normal condensation? I almost never use the AC so I'm not sure why there would be an excess of condensation when not in use.

Defrost (window setting) uses the AC... or you have a partial blockage in your drain line and that is trapped rain.

Figured out the compressor was turning on when climate control was set to vent& floor. Causing evaporator to turn to ice block.

Yes, the AC compressor should be on in any setting except OFF in 2010, earlier years it was just Defrost, then defrost and floor then defrost, panel, and floor, lol

Yes, drain line may be clogged, it comes out of firewall on passenger side, short hose end, you will see it, try sticking a wire up inside or try compressed air

It needs to drain well or the cab will start to get musty smell and carpet on passenger side will start to get wet making the smell worse

I am sure there is a reason, but why would the compressor need to turn on with every setting? Especially since the evaporator fan doesn't come on as well, causing the h20 buildup? Is this just #itsafordthing?

Also, I have rubber floors so no mildew smell for me!

The evaporator doesn't have a fan or do you mean the cabs blower fan

The evaporator is on to dry the air in the cab, pulls out the moisture and lets it drip out on to the ground, this prevents mildew in humid climates and fogged up windows in cold climates

In 2010 Ranger it looks like compressor would be off in 3 positions, OFF, Panel only and Floor only
