98 XLT, 2.5 liter, 5 speed, extended cab: Just turned 230,000 miles on a multi-state road trip with fuel mileage from 22-29 at 70-75 mph. Truck receives routine maintenance, replaced radiator, new brake pads/rotors at 150,000, new rear brake shoes at 180,000, and still on original clutch. However will soon replace upper/lower ball joints, tie rods (primarily due to lack of factory grease zerks). and control arm bushings.
Am considering a three inch lift using spindles and rear shackles/Explorer leaf springs.

Just turned 157,000 on My 97,and aside from replacing the front and rear main seals,it runs great with normal maintenance.I still seem to get around 270 miles per tank of fuel..(yes,I ran out of gas at 285 so I take no chances, lol). The fuel gauge has not worked since 2000 after I put injector cleaner in the tank,so I use the tripmeter. The MPT's (miles per tank) don't seem to change regardless if it is city or highway driving.

Have you had the truck since new? What do you mean by factory brakes? There is no way you still have the pads from the factory. If you still have the factory timing belt, you need to get that changed. Your running the risk of hurting your motor since that thing has to be worn and the likely hood of that belt snapping is increased.

My mileage is pretty crappy though, I average about 240-260 depending on traffic and how I drive on my tank, which I think is 14 gal?

New to Board :) 2.3L 4CYL 5-Speed Manual
2.3L 4CYL 5-Speed Manual
My first Pickup. 1997 Ranger. Just bought it last week it has approx 127000.
They said it just had rebuilt head., and its in pretty good shape for Motor Mechanically. Also transmission is alright. Every now and then it seems like if I put in reverse it has short grind cause It doesn't go in but that could be anything. Maybe cause I'm new to it.
I will take some picture tomorrow and add them to my thing.
Yea the 2.3L is pretty slow for my liking but It probably Has lots of torque, I'll have to fill the bed of the truck to see about the HP/torque ratio. PLZZZZZ be good!!!
