I need help figuring out error code 224
Hi all, I have a 1994 2.3 ranger and I am getting error code 224 (Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems), i replaced the coils, spark plugs and still had the code so I then also ran a ground wire from the right hand bolt, (since it is easy to get to), of the ICM module to the vehicles ground but am still getting the same code 224. Do I need to replace the ICM module? or is there anything else I can try? Thank you for any help you can give me. Mark
Welcome to the forum
In 1994 primary coil is the exhaust side coil pack, but 224 can refer to either coil pack, "primary circuit" is the ICMs ground connection to one of the 4 coils
Most autoparts stores can test ICMs, but a bad one can test OK, but a bad one can also test bad, lol, a good one never tests bad
You can unplug the ICM and then test the 4 wires to the 2 coil packs, they are color coded
Test for 0 ohms end to end

Thank you for the advice I was wondering which one was considered the primary. Is there an easy way to get to the ICM module to test, looks to me like I'll need to take off the A/C unit for access? Thanks for the help.
