Welcome to the forum
P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem
Change the CHT(cylinder head temp) sensor, its in the head/valve cover, between cylinder 3 and 4 I believe
Make sure the 2 wires and connector look OK
Not an uncommon issue on the 2002-2011 2.3l Ranger
The 2010 doesn't have a real temp gauge if that's what you are basing "temp stays perfect" on
2004 and up Rangers use a digital dash, so engine computer(PCM) feeds the dash most of the gauge info
If you have or can get an OBD2 reader that has Live data you can see what PCM sees from the current CHT sensor, and maybe why it set that code
You can buy Bluetooth OBD2 reader for $10-$20
It works with a FREE APP on your smartphone to display codes and Live Data as you drive
These work with ALL vehicles, 1996 and up, sold in the US and Canada, its the Law, so not a Ford thing
Its a good tool to have in the box
