Misterious mpg issue
This ranger of mine has what I suspect a leak in the tank like the gas evaporates out of it cause when filled up at half or more it will go through it like it's got two v8s and if you have it at the last quarter mark of the gauge it gets decent mpg or it moves slowly like it should any ideas on where a leak or what would cause this?....98 ranger XLT 2.5 manual ext cab

Could just be the way the float or sender is setup in the gas tank, many vehicles drop levels fast over top 1/2 of tank then drop slower after that
What is the actual MPG on a full tank?
Fill up the tank to second "click off"
Set trip odometer to 0
Drive it until below a 1/4 tank
Fill it up again to second "click off"
Write down the gallons and the miles on trip odometer
if it took 10 gallons of gas and you drove 220miles then you got 22MPG
220 / 10 = 22
if it was 10.2gal, and 235miles then
235 / 10.2 = 23.03MPG

Thanks I'll try that sadly I know my mpg is hurt badly I just wasn't sure if it had a leak it's missing its egr valve pipe and dpfr sensor and it's 2nd 02 sensor the upstream is old and has a heater issue in that sensor so I'm not sure what it will get till they are fixed but I appreciate the reply man! Thank you
