Got a video of my 2.5l with a new power steering pump and pulley. The engine is getting bogged down a ton. I rebuilt the pump it had and never experienced this issue. Sure I didn’t have power steering, but at least this wasn’t happening. Replaced the steering rack and that didn’t help any. Raised my front which looks way better however. Any ideas? I’m assuming it’s incorrect pulley placement or something along the lines of. Gonna make a video of me trying to fix it to hopefully help anyone in the future that’s experiencing the same issue.

 

I would guess a bad "new" pump
Power steering pump is basically "in neutral" when going straight, it should only draw extra power from the engine when turning, the 4cyl Rangers often had a pressure sensor on the power steering line to increase RPMs if stopped or driving slowly when turning the wheels, because of the extra power draw on the engine

 

interesting, so the issue could actually be coming from the upper hose? I’m experiencing that, ideal it die down, and back up. You can see the fan slow when it happens. And whenever I turn the wheels feel like like they’re jumping. even though it’s just the engine experiencing more strain. I’ll check with a vacuum pump and see if pressure is leaving the system. And just look and see if I can’t spot a leak from them. I tried to post the video, but can’t get it to post. The power steering works very well, minus that huge issue of my truck feeling like it’s going to fall apart. Thank you for your response. I’ll post progress to contribute and make sure I don’t just take site space.
