red line?

How many rpms is too many rpms? I was up to 5000 the other day but I'm not sure how far I would want to push it past that.

The stock ECU should stop you if your going too high. Unless you are like me and you've reprogrammed your ECU so you can rev to 9500.

On stock internals I wouldn't test your luck going past 5 grand. I took mine to 6 and the internals became externals lol

On a stock Ranger OHV engine it isn't good to rev the **** out of the engine, ie. missing shifts surging RPMs up past 5500 rpms, 'free revving'. However on the SOHC engines they like to be revved. 6,000-6,200 rpms sounds about right for a stock rev limiter. Your 2.3L lima is an SOHC, I don't see 5,000 rpms being harsh unless you start hearing odd noises

So I'm doing fine with my shifting. Well as long as I'm not revving that high getting out of my drive way.

Well I slightly downshifted too much on my truck once. Some moron cut me of big time and I was angry and I wasn't paying attention to my speed and threw it into second for an instant. The truck revved past the limiter but not by much. Maybe 300-500 more rpm. Also when I first when through the gears on my RX7 I went from second to fifth. I was used t the throws on my Integra and the RX7 has really short throws and the gears were tightly spaced. I guess I wasn't the only one that did that because would talk about it all the time on the RX7 forums. Doing that would shatter the 5th gear syncro.

I never did a 11K overrev though. That is just plain being stupid.

Fuel injected cars have a limiter to protect the engine. If you aren't sitting on it or going past it then you are fine. When I started driving I used to think that if you were to even touch the limiter then the engine would blow. LOL.

I see no need running mine past 5 grand. The engine stops making good power after that so its just all rpm from then on. I take my fc rx7 to 9 grand all the time. It blows all the carbon out. I never missed a shift with her yet. My brother in law tried to double clutch once and blew 3rd gear outta his turbo II. Talk about a bad noise.

Sometimes when I drive my truck I try and shift from 5th to 6th, then I realize "doh this is not the evo".. Really feels dumb.

Ranger should have 6 gears.

I thought fuel cut on all 4 banger rangers was 6200rpm. You dont have cv joints either, u joints maybe but not cvs.
