Trans rebuild, tools, info?

I think come spring I'm gonna rebuild my trans. Maybe its just low of fluid right now but when cold it can take 10-15 seconds to shift into reverse, and even when warm is kicks when shifting 2nd-3rd. Sure I could go buy one but whats the fun in that? I have a 2nd car so I can be without the Ranger for while. I've watched a few videos on trans rebuilds and it looks like something I could do. Just gotta be meticulous about keeping the bolts organized and I should be golden. I havent seen anything specifically on a 4r55e (or similar, I think thats the one I have) rebuilds but I think most automatics are pretty similar yes? Anyway what special tools will I need? Whats the best rebuild kit I can buy, not gonna go cheap there if I'm gonna spend all the time and effort on it.

Thank.

Not sure on the tools, but there are several rebuild videos on the A4LD/4R and 5R automatics, they are all the same hardware wise

But always replace the pump with Ford brand only, replace forward one-way clutch(sprang), give a good look at the other sprang and check OD drum, if out of round replace it

Many shops just do a soft parts rebuild, i.e. bands and clutches., which almost guarantees trans will have problems again in 12-18months, just out of warrant, lol

And new torque converter, always

How do I tell precisely which trans I have? Is it on the bottom of it or something?
