Yellow warning light

Hi from Sweden and this is my first post here,

Ok, I have a problem and I thought it best to throw it out here for any input. For a couple of weeks if I hit the gas I would see a cloud of black smoke in my mirror, the car ran fine other than that. I then completed a 1500km trip with no problems. Yesterday I started the car and got a solid yellow engine warning light and at tickover there is a small amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust.
The car runs smoothly but will not drive over 2400rpm, I suspected a leaking intercooler pipe but after removing it and checking, it has no leaks. So, my next guess is to remove the EGR unit and clean it.
Any input on this with the symptoms given would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
John.

You have a totally different truck than what we have here in the states.
This is what a 2011 Ranger looks like to us, and we haven't seen a diesel in a Ranger since 1986

Update....

Unscrewed the diesel filler cap and screwed it back on, started the motor and the warning light has gone!!!
I then took it for a drive and it revs freely and ticks over with no problem. However, it still has a little black smoke at tickover and a small black cloud if I gas it... I removed the air filter and banged it clean as there was quite a bit of dust (it was only held with 2 of the 3 connectors.
Thoughts??
John.

How many miles on it? When was the fuel filter changed?
A dirty air filter will definitely cause the smoke you describe.

And I like your version of the 2011 way more than our version!!

180000km on the clock, I am going to change the Air Filter then give it a blast of EGR cleaner while I am doing it... as I only bought it a couple of months ago the fuel filer is on my suspect list too...
Great little service truck so I want itto run right 👍
