Towing
Towed 6300lb trailer up the coast with broken in Ranger STX 4x4 with tow package. Now engine does not gear up as it did prior towing and stays in 1st gear until over 1500 rpms when not towing. Did I break or just break in the engine? Engine definitely doesn't sound the way it did. 😣

Yes, let us know if that was the problem
Would never have guessed fuel pump problem
Ford dealer shops/technicians have a private "forum" where they post problems/symptoms, and then solutions as they come up
Ford engineers, of course, monitor it and try to come up with fixes
This is where TSBs come from when a common issue starts to show itself

Towing with Ranger
The fuel pump was swapped out without any improvement. 2 hour drive the next morning turned on low oil pressure warning light. We stopped immediately, cooled and checked the oil, which was fine. Crept to garage around the corner where diagnositic showed 3.3lb pressure oil while idling... and glitter in the oil. OUCH. So we towed to Kendal Ford in Eugene and traded in 2020 Ranger with 4200 miles for a used F150.
We have not looked back, except for one quick sentimental au revoir to the Ranger in the dealer parking lot. Only thing that irks me is (and I should know this) buyer beware! The specifications a manufacture puts on a vehicle ie. 7500 towing capacity for 2020 Ford Ranger means what in practical terms and the sales people tend to know **** about the trucks they are selling.
