3.0 engine mods
3.0 engine mods
Hello everyone, has anyone replaced the mas airflow with a performance one? Also, could I upgrade the throttle body to a bigger one.
Just try’in ta get a little more from the small 3.0.
Thanks for your time,
jeff

Some bolt on 3.0l upgrades seen here: Tom Morana Racing Engines
No on the MAF sensor
The MAF sensor is there to "weigh" the incoming air
The computer already knows EXACTLY how much air is coming in to a 3 LITER engine at any RPM and throttle position, its just math
Gasoline's air fuel ratio is 14.7:1 this is a WEIGHT RATIO
14.7 POUNDS of air
mixed with
1 POUND of gasoline
or
14.7 grams of air
to
1 gram of gasoline
Gasoline weighs about the same anywhere, and hot or cold, air weight on the other hand changes quite alot
At sea level air is heavier than at say at 5,000ft(Denver) elevation, "thinner air"
"Hot air rises", thats because it LIGHTER than cooler air, so cooler air is heavier
The MAF sensor is there to weigh the incoming air, so engine can run well at sea level or in Denver, and can run well in the summer and winter
So unless the MAF sensors opening is restricting the air flow into the engine, there is no better MAF sensor

One upgrade for any engine that gives better power, AND MPG, is switching to an electric cooling fan for radiator
Mechanical fans draw power all the time, the fan clutch helps but they still use Horse Power anytime engine is running
Electric fan does use electric power from alternator, but.......................radiator cooling fan only needs to be on when driving slowly or stopped
When driving above 30mph the air flow thru grill is more than any cooling fan can provide, so electric fan is off, mechanical fan would still be using HP at any MPH
So load on engine from e-fan is when you don't need extra HP, lol
Is it a big gain in power, no, but it ain't 0 gain either, lol
Article here describes 3.0l install: https://www.therangerstation.com/Mag...d_ranger.shtml
There are several ways to do it with wrecking yard parts as well, seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...tric_fan.shtml
